Announcement: Dr. Gregory Hall Appointed to the ISAB

Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and International Security Advisory Board Members, October 2022

Daisy Alliance is excited to announce the appointment of our executive director, Dr. Gregory Hall, to the Secretary of State's International Security Advisory Board (ISAB).

The State Department established the ISAB to "advise with and make recommendations to the Secretary of State on United States arms control, nonproliferation, and disarmament policies and activities." Initial areas of study include arms control, emerging technologies, and the new challenges posed to international security by climate change and resource scarcity.

According to its charter, the purpose of the ISAB is to "provide the Department of State with a continuing source of independent insight, advice, and innovation on all aspects of arms control, disarmament, nonproliferation, outer space, critical infrastructure, cybersecurity, the national security aspects of emerging technologies, and international security and related aspects of public diplomacy."

For decades, the ISAB and its predecessor, the Arms Control and Nonproliferation Advisory Board, have advised the national government and state department on international security issues. The ISAB is sponsored and overseen by the Undersecretary for Arms Control and International Security, who provides the board's recommendations to the Secretary of State.

Dr. Hall joins the ISAB with 21 other principal actors in the fields international security, foreign, defense, trade, and nuclear weapons policies, civil rights, climate change, and public health. In addition to serving on the ISAB, he is an Assistant Professor at the University of Kentucky's Patterson School of Diplomacy and International Commerce and serves as a consultant for the Union of Concerned Scientists on the public threat posed by nuclear weapons and working with Congress on policies to reduce that threat.
